Happy Veterans Day: Ways to Honor Our Vets



Today (Nov. 11) is Veteran's Day, a day ofcelebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice for their country.

Check out the variety of free services, specials, ceremonies and events happening in and around central Arkansas to honor all those who have served and who are currently serving in the armed forces.

Here are places offering complimentary services and special deals for veterans and their families:

Free Carwashes at Splash Carwash in Little Rock and North Little Rock: Both Splash Carwash locations in Little Rock and their single location in North Little Rock invite all current military personnel and veterans to visit one of their full-service carwash and detailing locations for a free exterior carwash on Veterans Day today (Nov. 11).Splash is Little Rocks only carwash participating in the Grace For Vets program, designed to unite the car wash industry on behalf of veterans by offering free carwashes all day, rain or shine, as a way to thank them for their service to our country.For more information about the program, click here.

Free Admission to Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock: TheClinton Presidential Centeris offeringfree admission today (Nov. 11)to all active and retired military and their familiesin honor of those who have served in defense of our freedoms. In addition to the permanent exhibits, visitors can enjoy the Center's two temporary exhibits, "And Freedom for All: The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom" and "Oscar de la Renta: American Icon."AcoustiGuide audio tours narrated by President Clinton will also be free. Veterans Day Ceremonies:

  • North Little Rock Veterans Memorial at Laman Library Plaza, 2801 Orange St., North Little Rock:AVeterans Day Ceremonyis scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Nov. 11) at theNorth Little Rock Veterans Memorial atLaman Library Plaza. The keynote speaker is Paul Suskie, LTC ARNG-DSJA and Afghanistan and Iraq veteran.
  • Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, 120 Riverfront Park Dr., North Little Rock:The submarine group Razorback Base and theArkansas Inland Maritime Museum are sponsoring ceremonies paying respects to all that served, especially those who lost their lives while on a U.S. submarine. Start time is 4:30 p.m. today (Nov. 11)at the museum, located on the Arkansas River in downtown North Little Rock. Karilyn Brown, president of the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery Beautification Council, is the guest speaker. Refreshments will follow. Get more information about the event here.
  • River Market East Pavilion, 400 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock:Governor Mike Beebe is the keynote speaker for theVeterans Day Ceremonyat theRiver Market East Pavilion. Presented by theArkansas Department of Veterans Affairs, activities begin at 11 a.m. today (Nov. 11). The 106th U.S. Army Band and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System Chorale are providing entertainment.
  • Jacksonville Museum of Military History, 100 Veterans Circle, Jacksonville: The museum is having aVeterans Day Concertat 7 p.m. today (Nov. 11). Jacksonville High School Choirs and the museum present Salute Through Song which includes a musical tribute to each of the armed forces branches: The Army Song, Anchors Aweigh, The MarineHymn, The U.S. Air Force, and Semper Paratus. Song for the Unsung Hero will be performed in tribute to POWs and MIAs while Tell My Father is a salute to the fallen. Also are speeches by students honoring our troops, display of the Arkansas Fallen Heroes Memorial Flag Field and free admission to the museum. Find more information here.

Opening of "First Call: American Posters of World War I" atMacArthur Museum of American Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock:This museumin MacArthur Park opened aspecial new exhibit this weekend, featuring more than30 posters from World War I. Posters played an important role in World War I, used not only to justify involvement in the conflict, but also to procure men and resources for the war effort. Get more informationhere.

WOD for Warriors Fundraiser at Crossfit, 5301 McClanahan Dr., North Little Rock: Take in a special workout, workout and donate $10 for the nonprofit Team Red, Red & Blue, or work out and get a T-shirt for donating $35. The nonprofitsupports its veterans as they transition from service member to civilians. The event starts at 5 p.m. today (Nov. 11).Register and get more informationhere.
